Tips on Selecting a Contractor

  • Make sure you check the qualifications of any contractor before you hire them. It is always a good idea to request several references and check them yourself. Ask if the installer has completed manufacturer or other recognized training classes.
  • Call the Better Business Bureau to check if there have been complaints that have not been resolved.
  • Call the Registrar of Contractors to verify that the Company has current licenses to complete the work.
  • Before making a decision to purchase a new HVAC system, TEP suggests customers obtain several estimates from licensed contractors. Customers should verify that each estimate includes all associated costs including fees for appropriate permits (if applicable), labor, materials and disposal of old equipment in order to make an accurate comparison. Remember that the lowest bid isn't always the best choice. Make sure that all work that will be completed is described in a written contract.
  • Verify that the contractor has liability insurance to cover any accidents that may occur.
