Educational Programs and Services

TEP works closely with children, teachers and parents to teach important lessons about science, electrical safety and energy efficiency. Our ongoing DUI education program includes advertising in numerous school publications about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Teacher Appreciate Night at the Desert Museum

Tucson Solar Schools

Tucson Solar Schools links teachers to valuable class room lesson plans and resources for renewable energy, photovoltaic and energy efficiency as well as on-line activities. This web site also provides information about local schools and community sites with solar installations. More information.

Electrical Safety World

Electrical Safety World uses information, experiments, games, and activities to teach students the principles and practices of electrical safety. The Web site is geared for a range of interests and reading levels and can be used by students in elementary and middle school.

Free Classroom Materials

TEP provides free, grade-appropriate materials dealing with electrical safety, electricity science, energy efficiency and our natural environment. Some materials are in both English and Spanish. More information.

The Insulation Station® Kit

This hands-on science program for grade 4 is a working kit for 30-35 students. Compatible with the majority of science text adoptions as experiments within energy, conservation or heat units, it supports state education platform goals and can be used for Graduation and Benchmark Tests. Educational Videos/DVDs

TEP offers a wide variety of educational videos to schools for classroom use. Teachers wishing to borrow the videos listed can fill out a request form online. More Information.

Check out the video "Sunrise" on the history of solar energy in Arizona. Primarily geared to high school (and maybe middle school) students, but also good background for teachers of any grade. Produced by The Arizona Energy Office, 26 minutes.

Visit the "Electri-City" at TCM

The Tucson Children's Museum's "Electri-City" features a new (Jan. 30, 2006) exhibit sponsored by TEP. Electri-City offers lessons about electricity and energy efficiency for children from kindergarten through the 4th grade. TEP sponsored "Power Up" class tours are available for qualified schools on a limited basis. More information.

Free Trees for Schools

Thanks to a grant from Tucson Electric Power, Trees for Tucson offers trees at no cost to schools throughout the Tucson metro area, including tree planting demonstrations and slide shows on trees and related issues. More information

Energy Advisor

This home energy audit can be used as a classroom activity. . .and to lower home electric bills by saving energy. More information.

The Energy Advisor site offers a myriad of activities. Students can put in their zip code (if in TEP territory) and get energy-saving suggestions for their own homes. Or they can go directly to more advanced/detailed energy information in the "Library".
